The 1949 film starred Alan Ladd and Betty Field. The film created in 1974 starred Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. The opera performed in 1999 was composed by John Harbison. The most recent of these films is actually a television show which stars Toby Stevens and Mira Sorvino.
